Handmade backdrops for product shots or markets? from Ígló Kids Winter 2012

My old co-worker and friend Zara Gonzalez has just released a gem of an iOS app called Monster Coloring Book. It is one of the most stylish apps out there for creative kids. The best part about it is that all of the monsters that are featured in the app are the drawings that she's known for. I've sat in countless meetings where entire pages, post-it notes and whatever else ended up covered in these cute little guys.

Delightful. I bet the boy will love it... if he can pry it away from me that is.

A LITTLE SUNSHINE

The little girl's party was such fun. Everyone even managed to come in a full spectrum of color! I made the birthday girl a special little sunshine crown for the day, and she couldn't have been happier. And thank goodness for purple cauliflower. Am I right?

TINKATOLLI

Barrett found this little gem through Kickstarter (a funding platform for artists, designers, filmmakers, musicians, journalists, inventors, explorers...) After sharing it with the boy, I have to say, it's a refreshing little online game that I don't mind that he plays. I actually really like it. Tinkatolli is full of imagination and creativity. The site encourages kids to participate both online and offline. Once you create or do an activity offline, you can enter it in your journal, earn badges and points to further your tinka to next levels. They even disrupt your game to make you move if you've been playing too long. Now that's refreshing.

THE BABY GIRLS ROOM

It's a work in progress. Next... a giant cloud painted in the corner. I'm stalling. Faux painting techniques scare me.

We have been meaning to do a family portrait for some time now, so with our recent move and a conveniently leftover Mad Men dress from last year's Christmas party, it seemed like the perfect time. We convinced our long-time friend Tom Kemmer come out to the suburban tranquility for the shoot. Take some time to enjoy Tom's work and we hope you all have a swell new year.
